San Francisco’s Top Wine Bars To Check Out In 2015

There are many reasons why the Bay Area is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, with our vibrant wine and food scene being at the top. Not only is San Francisco close to the wine country but you can also taste a lot of wine without crossing one of our bridges.

Between our wine bars, restaurants and retail shops, there are plenty of places to taste wine. Here you will find the list of wine bars to visit this year:

20 Spot

Located in the Mission, 20 Spot gets the hip award for sure. There is a diverse selection including older German Riesling, a lot of organic wines and artisan California producers. Not least, 20 Spot is putting out some of the best grub in the neighborhood; the Devilled Eggs are a must.

Hotel Biron

Just a stones throw from Zuni Café, Hotel Biron is easy to miss but don’t. Many places lose steam over time but since its opening 13 years ago, Biron has continued to get better and better. The pours are generous, the staff is inviting and the 50 plus selection list is stocked with rising stars.

Terroir Natural Wine Bar & Merchant

Terroir broke ground when it opened in 2007. At the time, the selection of naturally made wines – those that farmed without chemicals, fermented with native yeast and vinified without additives outside of a tiny dose of SO2 – was pretty scant. They helped blast this door wide open by making a firm commitment and even though they now have competition on this front, they remain one step ahead of the pack.

The Barrel Room

The Barrel Room is set apart from the others on this list in that it has lots of three wine flights ranging from “obscure whites” to “big reds.” Many sustainable and organic producers from Europe and the United States are featured. There is also a reserve list with older wines at fair prices.

Blanc et Rouge

Blanc et Rouge is downtown near the Embarcadero and draws a good after work crowd. The list is one of the most diverse in the city, regionally and stylistically. If you want a classic California Cabernet Sauvignon or Argentine Malbec you’ll be happy but those who want more esoteric selections from Eastern Europe or, for that matter, California, will also be in luck.
